The Lemont Township Human Services Department is committed to assisting our residents in need.

 

Financial Assistance

The Lemont Township Human Services Department provides financial assistance and referral information to Lemont Township individuals and families during severe economic crisis.

General Assistance is a financial aid program that helps residents meet basic needs until employment or another source of income, such as Social Security, disability or public aid, is obtained. Eligibility is determined by established guidelines based on income, assets and household size. Applicants should have no other potential means of income and should have applied for all possible benefits to be eligible.

Emergency Assistance is financial aid granted to qualified individuals and families on a short-term basis to alleviate life-threatening circumstances or to assist residents in returning to self-sufficiency. If an individual or family is eligible, they may receive assistance once in an 18-month period to meet basic expenses.

To be eligible for either General Assistance or Emergency Assistance, the applicant must meet certain financial and non-financial eligibility requirements and must supply his or her Social Security card, a lease or mortgage statement, pay stubs (for the past 30 days), bank statements, and proof of registry with Public Aid and the Illinois Job Service.

Food Pantry

Lemont Township partners with two local pantries to assist our families in need.

O Bethany Lutheran Church 500 Lemont St. Lemont, IL 60439 is open Tuesday – Thursday from 9:00am-11:00am and 1st Saturday of each month.

O Lemont United Methodist Church 25 West Custer St. Lemont, IL 60439 is open Tuesday – Thursday from 9:45am-11am.

 

Residents must complete an application in order to attend these pantries. The application can be found here below or you can stop in the office to pick one up today.

To continue assisting families in our community, the Food Pantry accepts donations of canned vegetables, soups, fruits and tuna, as well as macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter and jelly, and toilet paper. All donations are appreciated and may be dropped off at the Food Pantry during its hours of operation, you may also drop off at Lemont Township if you are unable to donate during the pantries hours of operation.


Senior Services

“Rules of the Road”

This is a review test for seniors required to take the written or driving test in order to renew their driver’s licenses. This FREE class is offered three times a year.

Drivers’ Safety Class

This two-day class is designed to help older drivers improve their skills and safety behind the wheel. Course completion may qualify participants for a discount on the liability portion of their automobile insurance.

The class is held at the Lemont Township Police Department, 14600 E 127th St, Lemont, IL 60439. The two-day sessions are typically held from noon to 4 p.m. each day and participants must attend both days. The fee is $20 for AARP members ($25 for non-members) and is payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

 

 

Reduced Fee License Plate Stickers

The state Department on Aging’s Benefit Access Program, formerly known as Circuit Breaker, allows the Illinois Secretary of State’s office to provide reduced-fee license plate stickers for senior citizens and persons with disabilities who meet specific qualifications.

 

An application must be submitted online at the Illinois Department on Aging’s website. Paper applications are not available. For more information, go to Illinois Department on Aging or call the Township at (630) 257-2522.
